Artist Statement
Since 1990, I have pursued art and writing that explores how we relate to one another through technology and how we relate to it. This includes art, media, and computer technology.
Media are one of the "glues" of civilization, and this glue is as fundamental in representing all aspects of society, culture, and interpersonal relations. I explore this through critical theory, conceptual New Media art, and performance/social intervention.
In short, I find myself presented with a question about the world, society, or culture, and I work that problem out through my writing, art, and performace. My work is about the process of learning about the issues of my question, curiosity, or irritation, and sharing that with you, I often have great uncertainty about the result or what may happen to m in the process. It’s a great risk.
Formally, I work in almost all forms of Digital 3D - Animation, VR, Fabrication, Physical Computing, etc. I then translate the work for display through video, animation, live installation, electronics, virtual reality, physical computing, robotics, digital fabrication and imaging. I also go between modes, that is, realize virtual work by translation into traditional forms such as plates for print, paintings, and so on in order to meditate on my work in a broader context.
